Church Websites (Sidekick): How to switch to a single-page template design

How to switch from a Traditional Template to a Parallax design.

As you may have already noticed our Parallax designs have a different formatting structure than our traditional templates. So while switching up designs is simple, it will require some restructuring when you make the switch. Here is a quick guide to get you started in that process.

  1. Switching your templates is simple, as this video will show you how to quickly do so.

Let's change our template. Click on the settings button.
The current template that you are on shows up big right away. Click and drag the green bar underneath to the template you want. Click it.
A pop-up will come up. Our template change will not become permanent until we click the apply changes button. So just click ok.
Here's how your new template looks. If you are satisfied with it, click apply changes. If you are not, simply click cancel, then ok on the pop-up and it will be like nothing ever happened.

  2. Now you will need to do some re-arranging. This video will show you how to reorder your pages.

Let's change the order of our pages using Sidekick. Remember, no changes will take place until you click the Apply Changes button.
Click on the Content button. Here you can simply click and drag your pages up and down to reorder them like this. See how the Teaching and Leadership pages change positions? You can grab a page from the Additional Pages section to add that page to your navigation menu, or grab one that is on your menu and hide it in the Additional Pages section.
You can make one a subpage by dragging it underneath and to the right of one of the main pages. Want to make a subpage a main page? Just drag it to the left. Don't like what you did? Cancel it all by pressing the Cancel Changes button.

  3. Now you will need to create a new background or "full page banner" depending on what template you have chosen. Check out this video.

Let's check out how to make a full page banner. First off, let’s clear things up. What these really are, are pages. Or in this case, scrolling pages. So like all pages, they will get cropped and resized in mobile view.
So it is vital that you do not upload images for your full page banner that have text or an image of a person on them, as it may cut them off. Not only in mobile view, but in different views as well. For instance, check out this image I made with this guy playing the guitar and the cool verse on it.
It looks great. But now, look what happens when we have it inserted as a banner. It looks all messed up.
And when we view it in mobile view, it still doesn't look right. So instead, do something like this. Click the design button.
Click add banner. Now here you can either upload or select an image. Let's select an image. We want to make it darker, so we're going to add an overlay. Next, click save. Now I'm going to go ahead and click the pencil edit button on the top right.
We automatically have a single layout row, so you can just paste my text. Change it to whatever font I would like. Change the size, the color, and alignment. Then just click save.
Now look, you can see everything and nothing is cut off. Check it out in mobile view.

  4. Now that you have done that you may want to change all of your pages backgrounds. Follow this tutorial.

Let's give a subpage its own unique background. We are already on the subpage, so click on the background button on the upper right hand side.
We now have different options. We can choose from stock photos, textures, adding an overlay, or we can upload our own unique background. Let's do that one.
Click on upload, then on select files. Select the image you would like to upload. Click open.
Click add custom background. Click save. Now we are all done.

  5.  It is really important that you make sure that you do not add too much content onto your scrolling page. It is better to add a small amount of content to the page and create links to other pages or posts.

  6. Be sure to look through our other tutorials for more information on Cell creation, adding videos to your website and other helpful information to aid you in this process. As always you can create a ticket via the blue "Support and Tutorial Button" in the "Help" section of your website. Or simply click here to be routed to our ticket creation page.
