Dead Links are a great way to direct members to a group of subpages. This tutorial will show you how you can make a top navigation tab a "dead link" so that it can't be clicked and forces the visitor to choose one of the sub-pages. For instance, if you have a top navigation tab titled "Media" that you don't want visitors to click on and instead desire that your visitors be directed to select a sub-page underneath it, then you would use this method.
- From your dashboard menu, select the Menus option from within the Appearance menu item.
- From the Menus screen, click on the Custom Links option.
- From the Custom Links dropdown menu enter the # character into the URL field, the name you would like for your dead link into the Link Text field, and then select the Add To Menu button.
- This will add your new custom menu item to the bottom of your menu items. From there, you can manually drag and drop this item and any other ones that you would like to adjust until they are in your desired order, including moving menu items under your custom link as sub items. Once you have everything in your desired order, select the Save Menu button.
