Switching to Secure Email Ports

To enhance security and comply with modern email standards, Sharefaith is asking clients to update their email configurations to use secure ports for both incoming and outgoing email servers. This change helps protect email content from unauthorized access.

What's Changing?

Email Protocol Previous Port New Secure Port Encryption
IMAP 143 993 SSL/TLS
POP3 110 995 SSL/TLS
SMTP 25 or 587 465 SSL/TLS

*Port 25 for sending email is being deprecated and may no longer be supported.*

Required Actions

For Desktop Email Clients (e.g., Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail)

  1. Open your email settings.

  2. Locate the incoming and outgoing server settings.

  3. Update the ports as follows:

    • IMAP (recommended):

      • Port: 993

      • Encryption: SSL/TLS

    • SMTP:

      • Port: 465

      • Encryption: SSL/TLS

  4. If using POP3 instead of IMAP:

    • Port: 995

    • Encryption: SSL/TLS

  5. Save your settings and restart your email client.

For Mobile Devices (iOS/Android)

  1. Go to your mail account settings in the Mail app.

  2. Tap Advanced or Server Settings.

  3. Replace the current ports with:

    • IMAP: 993

    • SMTP: 465

  4. Set encryption type to SSL/TLS.

  5. Save changes.

Test Your Configuration

After updating your settings:

  • Send a test email to ensure outgoing mail works.

  • Check for new messages to verify incoming mail is syncing.

If you encounter errors, double-check:

  • Email address and password

  • Server names (e.g., mail.yourcompany.com)

  • Encryption settings (SSL/TLS must be enabled)

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why are secure ports required?
A: Secure ports encrypt data during transmission, protecting your messages from interception.

Q: Will this affect webmail?
A: No. Webmail already uses secure HTTPS connections and is not affected by port changes. (Click here for how to access your email via browser)

Q: What if I don't update?
A: Email clients using old ports may stop syncing or may be unable to send or receive email securely. However, this only affects the email client. Your email itself will continue to function and can be accessed via browser until you successfully update your email client configuration as outlined above.

Q: What is the deadline?

A: September 30, 2025

Q: I need help, who do I contact?

A: If you need assistance with reconfiguring your 3rd Party email client's settings to perform these necessary changes or confirm that it is properly configured to use the secure ports listed above, please contact the Support team of your 3rd Party email client.

If you need further clarity regarding this change or assistance with accessing the RoundCube webmail portal via your web browser, please contact our Support team (Create Ticket / 888-317-4018).
